Why city selection matters

A panchang is computed from the Sun and Moon as seen from a specific point on the earth. Sunrise in Guwahati is well over an hour earlier than in Ahmedabad on the same date, and because Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya, Abhijit Muhurat and the day-part kaals are all fractions of the interval between sunrise and sunset, every one of them shifts with the city. The tithi, nakshatra and yoga boundaries move too, which occasionally moves a festival by a full day. Selecting your city is not a convenience feature — it is the difference between a correct muhurat and an approximate one.
