Rahu Kaal in Nagpur on Friday, 21 August 2026 is 10:41 am – 12:16 pm. Sunrise is 5:54 am and sunset 6:39 pm; Rahu Kaal is one-eighth of the interval between them, and which eighth depends on the weekday.

What is Rahu Kaal?

Rahu Kaal is the daily period ruled by Rahu, the north lunar node. It is the single most widely observed inauspicious window in everyday Hindu practice — far more people avoid Rahu Kaal than consult a full muhurat. New ventures, travel, purchases, signing agreements and auspicious ceremonies are traditionally kept outside it. Work already in progress is not affected; it is beginnings that are avoided.

How Rahu Kaal is calculated

The daylight period is divided into eight equal parts. The first part is never Rahu Kaal on any day. The part that carries Rahu follows a fixed weekday order — Monday takes the second part, Saturday the third, Friday the fourth, Wednesday the fifth, Thursday the sixth, Tuesday the seventh and Sunday the eighth. Because the parts are fractions of the actual daylight length, Rahu Kaal is longer in summer than in winter and differs between cities on the same date.

Gulik Kaal and Yamaganda

Two further inauspicious periods are derived the same way. Gulik Kaal (also called Mandi, ruled by a son of Saturn) is generally considered less severe than Rahu Kaal and is even held favourable for a few specific purposes in some traditions. Yamaganda, ruled by Yama, is avoided for travel and for anything concerning health. All three are listed on this page.

Frequently asked questions

What time is Rahu Kaal today in Nagpur?

Rahu Kaal on 21 August 2026 in Nagpur is 10:41 am – 12:16 pm.

What should you not do during Rahu Kaal?

Avoid starting anything new — a journey, a business, a purchase of value, an agreement, or an auspicious ceremony. Routine work, work already under way, and daily worship are not restricted.

Is Rahu Kaal the same time every day?

No. It moves with the weekday and with the length of daylight. On the same date it also differs between cities, because it is computed from that city's own sunrise and sunset.

How long does Rahu Kaal last?

About 90 minutes — precisely one-eighth of the time between sunrise and sunset, so it runs slightly longer in summer and shorter in winter.

Does Rahu Kaal apply at night?

The commonly observed Rahu Kaal is a daytime period. A night-time counterpart exists in some traditions, computed from the sunset-to-sunrise interval, but it is far less widely followed.
